Hello. I need some help with simple overclocking on my 3970x processor. I have an Asus P9X79 Deluxe Mobo with 16GB Corsair 1866 ram and of course the 3970x processor with a corsair H100i cooler.

I'm only looking to overclock this processor to 4.2GHz. I know that I'm going to use the multiplier (not BLCK) to 42 and run the memory in XMP mode. But do I need to modify the voltage and to what for the speed? Do I also need to make any changes to the LLC?

I know that Turbo is available to 4.0GHz, but I would prefer to actually overclock normal. I like the lower thermal temps versus raising the processor too high. And more importantly I like the stability.

Any help, or suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.

At 4.2 the s-vid will take care of enough voltage for you I would bet. Just set multiplier to 42, put the ram in XMP mode and you should be good.
