Silly motherboard question

This may be a silly (read: stupid) question, but how does one determine the type of mobo in a machine? I mean, whether it's ATX or otherwise. I ask because I recived an older computer I'd like to work on, but I'm not quite sure about that.

Thanks in advance, and if it's a stupid question, just slap me. ;)

P.S. I'm just getting back into the modding world again, so be kind. :p

If its ATX, It'll hae either 5 or 6 PCI slots and an AGP

If it's mATX, it'll have 3 PCI slots and 1 (or none) AGP slot.

and if It's Mini-ITX, than it'll be a pretty tiny system.

It will either be ATX of some sort (as described by the last guy) or the older AT spec. The easiest way to tell it to look at the power cable(s) coming from the PSU to the motherboard. The ATX motherboards will have one large 20pin (or for really new ones 24pin) plug. The AT boards have two plugs directly beside each other, usually with P8 and P9 printed on them.

Doh, no AT specs there sorry. If it's Pemtium 2 or greater I'd guess it has to be ATX. If it's older than that and the keyboard connector is as big as your thumb it's AT
