Shuttle SK41G Problem, Need Help!

Hi,

Ive recently bought a Shuttle XPC Barebone SK41G, and everything works perfectly EXCEPT gaming :( . I only play one game though, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, and its crashing constantly.

My computer specs are:
Windows XP Pro
Version 2002
SP 2
AMD Athlon(tm)XP 2000+
1.67 GHz, 512 MB RAM

And my graphics card (which I bought afterwards and installed):
NVIDIA GeForce 6200

Basically what happens is:
I play mohaa, and after some time the screen goes black and reboots. I went to Control settings and unchecked reboot after errors to see if it was BSOD, but it only goes black and stays that way, until I reboot. So, anyway, I have been playing like this for a week or so now, all the time crashing, sometimes crashes directly after a crash, sometimes it takes a while. And yesterday was the worst. It crashed in the game. Then when I rebooted, it got the windows logo, and finished the loading, then it went black. I rebooted all the time and it didnt work. Not even shutting it down. Then I let it be for 30min and tried again and it worked, so guessing its overheating or something.

Also another note, sometimes when rebooting, after windows logo or before, cant remember when, the screen is black for a half a second as normal, though theres a weird white bar loading quickly at the bottom :eek:

Hope someone can help me on this one, Im thinking of buying SHUTTLE XPC EXTRA HEATPIPE FANS but will that even help? And if so, how many should I get, and how the heck do I install them?

Another note, I am very newbie when it comes to drivers and such, so it mite also be just that :confused:
 
Anyone, plz?

I just had a go at installing the Test Driver, think its old though, beta. After having read something about Staying out of the Loop? And, well it crashed after 1 hour and 16min. Please help a fella out! :'(
 
I am a shuttle novice, but have you gone to Shuttle's website a tried updating the drivers with the latest ones? Here is the link to get you started

Shuttle sucks imo, not to be a git, but they dont even update their site. Or its the wrong drivers Im looking at cause the chipset on their site as the newest one is definatly not the newest one, theres up to 5.00A and also a lower version: 4.56. Either that or those Hyperion 4ini's are for other systems?
 
Keep in mind that the SK41G is a discontinued item and has been for some time. If you have loaded the latest drivers and are still having stability issues, maybe you should see if you are pushing the limits on your 200W PSU. Try the calculator below and see where your system falls. This is only an estimate, but should give you an idea of how close you are.

Do you have the means (spare hard drive) to do a clean XP install?

Might well be something else in the OS buggering things up.

Also, what are the temps you are seeing on the CPU and video card?
 
I was thinking of formatting and reinstalling the whole thing. But I need to know this first, concerning the drivers:

VIA hyperon drivers. Which one? I got:

Version 5.00A
Version 4.56

Or another version perhaps? Perhaps these hyperon drivers are for newer shuttles only, and that I should download ONLY the ones on their site for Shuttle SK41G? Though they havnt been updated like since 2002 :confused:

Also about NVIDIA driver, there is one new one:

83.90

And theres the second newest one:

83.62

And the newest one on NVIDIA site is:

81.98

So which one should I pick?

Those 2 drivers I am the most confused about. Then I will install the sound driver which is ok.

Concerning PSU, I have no idea about those kinda things. And the test, well I dunno what to pick on everything except what I wrote on the first post :( Im a newbie at computer hardware and drivers. I only know programs.

Btw, the crashing does not happen on anything other then gaming.

i think its your CPU getting too hot.

I am having the same problem with my shuttle. but my cpu temps are getting into the 75c under a full load.

I think my heat pipes are bad if that is even possable. I changed the fan speed to max still not cooling. I have reseated the heat sink twice and added more artic silver but it still is not getting any cooler. Changed the fan too.
