Shuttle SD31P Slow POST

Hi

Have just bought a new Shuttle SD31P XPC. Everything assembled fine (Pentium 830D 1GB RAM, SATA in AHCI Mode, Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS). Very fast and so far very pleased.

One problem. When the built in card reader is attached internally - the POST (and XPC splash screen) take 1 minute and 15 seconds to complete. VERY slow. When I disconnect the built in card reader - POST and splash screen time is about 10 seconds.

Any ideas? After either the slow or fast POST the OS loads fine and the machine runs ok.

With the card reader attached, and after the slow POST, the card reader appears to be functioning fine - have inserted SD memory modules and they seem to be working.

Any ideas as to why the attached card reader would be causing such a slow (and irritating) POST?

Strange one! I would have said SATA Cables (unfortunately Shuttle are know for crappy SATA cables). Is there any BIOS updates at all?
 
Strange indeed.

Have flashed the latest BIOS already (and have read about the SATA cable problem although as you say it doesnt' apply here).

I guess the simplest thing to do is to try replacing the card reader and/or the card reader cable and see what happens.
 
Try fiddling in the bios, set your HDD to boot first, or at least so that the card reader isnt listed in the primary boot config. Might help.
