codeflux said:1. RAID0 is *not* useless - if it's SATA. My current Raptors * 2 in RAID0 KICK ASS.
2. It will be RAID1 - two 400GB drives in RAID1.
IceWind said:Running dual HDD"s in a shuttle is just a plain bad idea.
the upcoming SB81P actually has room for 3 hard drivesdjnes said:Quite a few people have done it, without a problem. The newer ones are even designed for 2 hard drives.
which shuttle? - as in, which model? go out and get yourself a signature, dude, it'll help prevent these questions in the future. how do you have the hard drives mounted?Gshady said:What is so crazy about 2 hard drives in a shuttle? Ive got 3. A 40 gig and two 160 gig drives plus a dvd burner. Its packed inside there and probably isnt good for the temps but it works and I havent had any problems.
codeflux said:Are you people high?!... Check out my RAID0 benchies with 2 raptors on IC7-G, Promise RAID controller, and 3+GHz box (can't remember what it was at the time):

You cannot get that performance on non-RAID'ed setup.
When is that new shuttle coming out? I could use 3 hard drives - 2x400 & 1x74/raptor
codeflux said:whatever, dude. IN MY CASE: no raid0 = slow, raid0 = fast. try running some benchies yourself. try working with movies or huge graphics for a while, where it begins to thrash your box. try loading huge maps in UT2k4. try it without RAID0, and then with RAID0. then try to talk to me about how RAID0 gives you no real performance gain. bleh.
/me disregarding any more comments about RAID from now on.
so, does anyone know when SB81P is coming out?
djnes is right on about RAID0, but I don't feel like getting into itcodeflux said:so, does anyone know when SB81P is coming out?
CooLSpoT said:I dont use it for any other then games. Raid 0 worked great for me because it got me loaded into games before anyone else. I am always the 1st person loaded in every game. You dont think this helps but in BF1942 I can capture a flag before the other team spawns.
Yes the price for RAID is a little high compaired to what it dose for me but none the less it works.
Also i am a warez freak. Host lots of crap and i know when i have 8 users downloading from me RAID plays a big part there
codeflux said:you know, try using kazaa, emule, and soulseek, all at the same time, downloading 50 files each. big files. then add to that an ftp server, letting people download. then add to that regular desktop use. then tell me that raid0 is useless.
STOP TRYING TO PUSH *YOUR* AGENDA ON *ME*.
Subliminal said:Actually, as an innocent bystander, I think that it's good to have debates like this. Someone can come on here and do a search on raid0 and read about how fast it is, even if it really isn't. Then they go and waste their money on something that won't benefit them. Now, if someone was to come on and read this thread, they'd know that, at the very least, they'd still have some researching to do.

djnes said:I'm going to add your name to the joke forum in genMay where we're laughing at people who argue with fact and disagree with two of the most knowledgeable and respected sites. WOW!
Since you feel your experience as one person means the world, I'll tell you I've done the testing myself and have found that Anand and StorageReview are absolutely correct. My fiancee doesn't professional multimedia creation, and using some of her functions, I still couldn't get a better performance. I'll agree with you on the gaming part....but just WOW...arguing with fact is just...WOW....can't come up with a better word. You guys are giving us some good laughs...thank you!

don't worry about laughing at my expense. It's my job to educate ppl like you. I'm just saddened that you seem to trust everything you read in every net article. At least you tried to do some homework [or so you say]. If you've ever done any journalism you'll also learn that any article has to be taken with a grain of salt. Sites like Anand and HardOCP are great, I highly recommend them to anyone, but everything published isn't always the 100% truth or 100% accurate. We could start talking about what kind of jobs we hold, penis lengths and that, I or you indeed may know more than me or you, but I'll just leave this thread untouched after this cuz I know a flamewar is a waste of my time.

Then again, maybe you're one of those bunnies that read a few reviews from sites like tomshardware or anand, thinks they're the sh*t, and go and buy the latest and greatest graphics card because the scores in some shitty bench say it's # times faster than that crappy card you bought from the last review.
