Hi.
I recently bought my system based from the Shuttle model # ST61G4B, with a Pentium 4 3.0c GHz, 1024MB Mushkin pc3200 DDR400 RAM, onboard sound and onboard video. Everything runs fine and I havent had any problems with the exception of the sound. The sound works and everything, but when I turn the volume up beyond some point around half way, I get this weird Static. I observed that the static would vary when I loaded or closed an application, which leads me to believe that the problem is being caused by some sort of electrical interference which I have come to understand is a very common problem amongst onboard audio. So my question is this:

Will getting a PCI sound card remedy this problem? I am not in the market for SUPER HIGH QUALITY sound, I just want nice, clear sound and if it is better than normal static-free onboard sound then that is all the better. Of course my obvious dilemma is that I have a Shuttle, which as you know is limited as far as expansion is concerned, considering it only has 1 PCI slot. I plan on adding an AGP video card somewhere along the line, and having both slots occupied makes things even more crowded than usual. Also, I use the PCI slot at times for a Wireless-G PCI adapter that I have. My point is that if it is at all possible to try to fix the problem without getting a sound card, I would prefer to take that route.

I could just end up getting a USB Wireless-G card or something like that, so this is the soundcard I was looking at in the event that there is no way to fix this problem using alternate methods:

It is no top of the line product of that I am sure, but it does have 7.1 channels and every review I have read said that it is awesome. So if you would please post your opinions about my situation, suggestions about what to do, and reviews on that soundcard, I would be very much obliged

that would be a huuuuge pain considering I am in college and need to use my computer all the time. Would that necessarily fix the problem anyway? What if the new sound was the same/
