Okay, I'm wondering if I buy a Socket A shuttle and put my 92mm Vantec tornado on the back of it with a 80 -> 92 duct type thing, will I see good cooling performance? Comparable to SLK947u?

I'm running an Athlon XP-m 2500+ and I would like to push to at least 2.2 with this. (I had it at 2.6 with my SLK947u) but even at 1.8 all the games I play run fine.

Help me out?
 
Yeah but I think that would be overkill honestly. The ICE handles some overclocks really well without the need for extra fans. I'd say just cut out the grill to let it breathe better and you'll be fine.

EDIT: Check out the overclock in my sig and you'll see..lol All i did was use a dremel and cut the back grill out. Works nicely. 42 idle 55 full load and its a Preshott lol

my sn41g2v2 is stock, with a stock fan, and i didn't cut the grill out.. it ran my mobile at 2.5ghz @ 1.85v for a few months straight with no problems.. temps were under 50.. right now i am at
46 c on the cpu with 100% load because i run fah..
2 ghz.. 200 x10.. @ 1.47v .. this is with 2 hard drives and a gig of memory in the case, and i moved to florida so the room temp went up..

to be fair, i was doing 2.5 ghz with only 1 hard drive, and 1 stick of ram, and the computer was in the basement of my mom's house so those helped the temps a bit..

also people do cut out the back grills on their shuttles and get 80 - 120mm adapters and stick 120mm fans on them.. i was going to do this, but i got a shuttle carryying bag and the thing fits exactly.. plus i never even shut my computer down long enough to mod it.. it is just too damn stable.. i run it for months straight..

for your hardware i would reccomend a shuttle sn45gv2.. they are $200 give or take a few $ at newegg..drop that xp mobile in there and i see no problems with you hitting 2.6 with a few mods, especially if you were doing it before..

Cut out the grill to reduce backpressure and then use the 92mm adapter and you will get good temps with the ICE unit and lower system temps as well.

I dunno if they ship to Canada. But as it is its only $20 USD more and has a lot better chipset (nforce 2).
 
Ah well. I'm goin off the fact I had a SN41G2. lol I had no problems with that one lol.
 
I hate to keep asking questions but, at directron.com you can add things to the shuttle such as a side cold cathode fan, does this mean they will cut a hole for you and add it or no?

No, you will have to do it yourself.
 
I don't want to have to use a SATA controller :\, waste of PCI slot. Does it support dual channel DDR400, or at least DDR333.

The SK43G has SATA and dual channel, I was talking about the other one people suggested. :|
 
sn41g2v3 = built in raid + official ddr400 support and $260
sn45gv2 = no built in raid but is $200
sn45gv3 = built in raid.. but i can't find them for sale in the US yet.. that is probably the one to try to get if you can.

i got an sn41g2v2, but that was before the sn45g v2 and v3.... sn45 seems to be about where its at..

dual channel doesn't really mean shit with socket A.. just so you know..

the sk43g has sata, but it also has the nosier, less powerful 200 watt psu, the via chipest instead of the nforce, and says it is only 333fsb.. but that is probably for the same reason as mine.. the integrated video.. if you use an agp card then 400 fsb is fine i would think..

i have no idea what the bios would let you do on those.. i know that on the sn41 and sn45 it is great and lets you do just about everything, except memory voltage.. (speaking of which, does anyone know if the v3 fixed this memory voltage problem?) [i guess it is irrelevant since i won't be building another socket A shuttle]

i personally would get the sn45gv2 and an sata card..

or look into external sata enclosures.. i bet you could even boot off of the thing just fine and not even have an internal hard drive, that might be an interesting experiment..

i see now that you have that sblive that you want to stick in the pci slot probably.. it is tough i guess.. that $260+ sn41g2v3 would take care of you, but it might not be worth the extra $100 over that via one, it might be though just for the psu, and the nforce..

Thats why I asked him what he wanted to put in the PCI slot, b/c if he gets an SN45G series there no point in putting that SB live in seeing as how the onboard is better anyways.
 
No, the other PCI slot will be used for my Wireless G card and swapped out for my gigabit card when needed (I lan quite a bit and need gigabit because the LAN centre I work at uses gigabit hubs.[transfering files... mmmm... sexi gigabit]). So I cannot go with the SN45GV2 since there is no SATA support.

I just took a look at the specs for the SN41G2V3 and wow, I am definately going to go with this one. I'll spend the extra dough for it, plus it looks better :D

i thought both had the same sound.. i have soundstorm.. but no digital reciever.. therefore i am stuck with analog which is the crappy one.. luckily i am using bose speakers now and can't tell the difference.. haha.. damn i hate bose..
