I plugged in a fan this evening while my computer was on because I heard it will not cause problems, but I'm guessing that all of the pins in the molex did not touch and the computer shutdown. What damage could that have done to my machine if any? and how could i tell if damage was done?

I've done this plenty of times, but not with a fan but a cd-rw, windows sometimes removed it from my computer and the computer would hiccup. So i have to unplug it from the molex to get it to work again. It's shut down on me 5 times, and none of those times has it done any damage.
