shutdown and standby. same or different?

I usually like not turning my computer off...
but at the same time i would like to save electric bill lol...

is putting ur computer on standby any help? same?

I think it sets the energy use to a minimum, so it's best if you set it to standby. Though I'm not sure if programs you wanted to run will still be working while it's in standby; likely not.

i didn't think that programs ran during standby.....

programs are put to sleep during standby.
why not turn off your computer?

If nothing else, at least reboot once a week, otherwise performance will suffer.

yeh. and especially with my new vista install, startup and shutdowns are really really fast so i just run it off everytime i stop using it.
