i have everything i need for a conroe build other than the CPU. prices are still pretty high on the every website. when are the prices gonna go down? how long should i wait before i get my conroe?

as long as you think you can handle it before you think your going to break and strangle somebody :p

On a serious note , I think its going to take about two weeks for them to settle , that said I wouldnt wait and just buy it cos you buy it today or three weeks later the prices are going to go down, so at the end the its up to you.

Look at my SIG and you can see how my days have beeen passing for the last nearly four weeks , even bought a lapping kit and coolaborotory liquid pro.

If you have everything else just get one when you can. Prices will go down but there is no way to know when.

Now if you didnt have ANYTHING for your build yet I would say wait but thats more for motherboard and video card choices than price.

Which one are you getting?

If your getting a E6400, get it now. An E6600, there still a little hard to find and most places are charging a little extra for them. I would prolly still get it as I'm not going to put an entire system on hold for $20-$30.

It also depends on what your price-point is.

At what $$ value do you consider buying the proc.

Personally, I felt it was worth the $25 extra I spent (had one on backorder for really cheap) to get one shipped to me.

i;m thinking the e6600 even thou i;m gonna be a little over my budget, but i think it;s going to be good in the long run.

Well, the question is, how much are you hoping to spend, and how much are you willing to spend.

Spend the extra $30-$50 for what you want in my opinion. Or wait another month for the $30-$50, your choice I suppose.

Part of the problem is that may people heard the $319 figure a long time back.

They got confused and thought it was a MSRP even though it was probably OEM and by trays of 1000.

A lot of people are still hoping to get their orders at around $339. Not many companies out there are really going to be able to pay their distributors $350 (pulling that number out of... we ll, you know) and turn around and sell it to costumer for $339 shipped.

Now, if you are willing to look around, there are places selling them for over $400, some for $380 and others that are a bit more reasonable... Assuming mine gets shipped in a reasonable timeline (supposed to be today) I'm happy with the (...thats what I get for taking two calls while I'm trying to think) ~$355 I paid.

It all depends on how much it is worth it to you.

Wait for the new stepping.

I heard there was a bug in this current stepping regarding cache operations which could corrupt data?

I dunno, read it on Anandtech CPU's forum.

I have seen most processors have done nice overclocks , there are people out there on the board who are new to overclocking and have got still ok clocks , so personally I dont think so.
