Here are my current system specs:

A64 3000+ (939)
MSI K8N Neo2 Plat
6800NU
512mb ValueSelect
OCZ Powerstream 520W

My main question really is if i should upgrade around christmas or wait until the new stuff comes out (new sockets) and is the 7800 series gonna be around for a while? I am kinda pissed that in less than 2 years the 7800 dominates the 6800's... I mean the generation before the 6800's lasted ALOT longer.

So if I do need to upgrade, please consider the next 2 paragraphs.. thanks

Ok well I KNOW I need more ram... But the thing is I dont know whether to blow $40 now on 512 mb more value select or to wait and get good ram?

I also want a new vid card, and if I did that id have to get a new mobo but I dont know whats right for me because I dont care about overclocking really (and do I even need good ram if im not gonna overclock?)

1gb for the win.

As far as "good" RAM... timings don't matter on s939 nearly as much as it did back in the nForce2 days. ValueSelect is just fine.

512mb more ram, new vid card when you can. 7800 should be around at least a little longer than 6800 was. don't wait for new stuff, waiting game in pc hardware sucks, especially with so many good games and stuff out around this time of year.

Your system seems to be pretty strong... I say, just skip a generation and save up for the generation after that... That way, when\if you get the 7800... you won't be surprised that you got outdated again. Besides, your system should be able to play all current games fine.

You have to ask yourself if the extra money is worth it right now to upgrade... You already know that prices drop all the time. Now, if you had a s754 system, I would say you might want to consider upgrading.. ha... I am seriously thinking about upgrading. :-(

For you... If I had your setup, I would be satisifed.

lmao dont be pissed about new vid cards coming out every 6 months and stomping the previous gen

vista will strain the vid card vs the cpu, so expect the computer trend to change for the better

we are still a LONG ways off before its years and years before u upgrade again

Well I am definetly going to get 512mb more ram I think...

What made me think I might should upgrade is I was playing BF2 and i had most things medium and textures on Low (Geometry on High) playing at 1280 x 1024 and i got alot of stuttering and some brief freezing when playing... But the FPS (not sure what the actual FPS was but Im not worried about numbers anymore, I just care if its playable) was good so I am thinking this is a RAM problem and 1gb should fix it pretty good?

Whenever the new stuff comes out ill come back here and ask what i should get because I dont overclock the CPU/RAM at all but sometimes I overclock the GPU...

While im on this, why can you not run value ram on a DFI Lanparty nf4 ultra-d board? And will they fix this in the future? Because I like DFI i know they are a good company but I dont buy their boards because I use value ram... I almost woulda bought one until i LUCKILY read not to buy it because i got valueram, does it say this on the specifications? Cause i sure didnt see it... that would b horrible if something bad hada happened.

curious as to what you read. i think you can use value ram with bios update.

Yes, BF2 is a RAM hog. I went to 2gb from 1gb just because of this game... well, and I know that it will help long-term.

so i guess that means itll be 100% fixed in the future? Still, it is poorly advertised
