Guys, I am at a stand still. I am somewhat of a "top-notch" freak if you would call it that. I am wondering if upgrading the current system I have here to PCI-E, DDR2, and socket 939. My system specs are as follows:

- Hyundai Imagequest 19" L90D+ 8ms LCD -
- Lian-Li Pc60 silver -
- DFI Lanparty nf3 250gb -
- AMD Athlon64 3000+ socket 754 -
- 1gb Geil pc3200 -
- Radeon x800 Pro 256mb DVI -
- Western Digital 36.6 gb 10k rpm SATA -
- 2x WD SATA 80gb -
- 8x TDK dvd-rw -
- 16x Lite-on DVD-rom -
- Logitech z-560 400wt 4 speaker -

I want to know if I should sell the CPU/MOBO/RAM/VIDEO card, and upgrade all of that to a SOCKET 939 cpu and mobo, DDR2 ram, and a PCI-E video card. Your input is most welcome here.

That's still a nice PC I mean if you want the "top of the line" everything I guess socket 939 is nice. I just switched from pentium to AMD so I haven't really done anything with 754 but I'd say wait a few months then upgrade. At the moment you should be able to run just about anything. btw are you overclocking?
 
no need to unless u cant play the games you like or do the work u do already. I doubt it. If u still feel the need to or just cuz u have the money and its a hobby go for it. You know it best and know what you like.

I'll buy somethings off you to help fund as well ;)
 
I have a 3 years old comp

athlon xp 1600+
512 DDR
overclocked Geforce 3 ti-200

All I have updraded in 3 years is :

DVD burner
Added 256 RAM to go from 256 to 512
Added a 120 gig HD to complement the 40 gig
Added a revo 7.1 sound card to replace SB LIVE

This comp allows me to do everything I want. Msn, counterstrike, starcraft, music, chat, surfing, etc.

It might not be good, but I don't need to upgrade.
I really don't see why you should upgrade, other than spending money.
Of course if you have alot of money, and you have nothing else to do with it, whatever man. But I'd rather buy a new bicycle, ipod, rollerblades, drink, clothes, go to the restaurant, travel, whatever.

Your choice.

Oh and yeah, I can't wait to make money to buy everything I want, damn.
 
what exactly *can't* you run with those specs? i think they're fine, so don't worry about upgrading.

Yeah, and after you get a socket 939 with DDR2, let me borrow your time machine ok?
 
Your computer is already good compared to today's standard...I would keep what you go until dual cpu and dual gpu's come out.......Upgrade around Dec of this year.....
