Should I get OCZ?

Currently looking at OCZ Ram for my computer. What are opinions on this?
 
I have a 512 stick of ocz ddr400. It's good stuff, no problems.
 
One thing I never understood, given OCZ's past and present, why anyone would buy their memory?

You have Crucial, Kingston, Corsair, Mushkin, and probably a few others who actually have integrity, actually sell the products they advertise, and allow reviewers to give honest reviews? Why would anyone in their right mind even consider OCZ with all those other more deserving companies?

Take a look at my sig, and then do some research into their past, recent past, and present. Then pick one of the other brands.
 
I wouldn't use it unless you're overclocking.

But then in that case I'd put OCZ up against anybody.

Their past has been sordid, but so is the list of companies that have owned them. The current owner of this brand is easily vying for tier-1 level distribution. And I think they'll make it, as the quality is up to par with anyone, especially some jaded peoples beloved Corsair, once you go beyond JEDEC spec'd speeds.

But if you just want bone stock rock solid 3200 stick with CorsairXMS LL or Hyper-X Kingstons.

selling memory that doesnt run at advertised speeds, and memory that is wrongly packaged and sells for more than its worth, and arctic silver that contains no fucking silver...

why would you buy from them.

would you buy cheese from the store, if you knew in that past that they had cow shit fall in the mix... i think not.

Excellent analogy. Made me smell the cheddar I was putting on a baked potato an extra time (thank you), but that basically sums it up.

They have had so many problems in the past and those continue to this day, it doesn't warrant another chance. They have been out of secon chances long ago.

Especially in a market where other companies exist working hard to deliver great products.
 
Thats a good point, there are other companies with hard working folk who try and make it on the up and up. (at least we hope)

OCZ is okay. sure, they had their problems, but they are really trying to improve. look at this link regarding the thermal grease:

btw, i dont see any of the problems they had continuing today. i think they make some fine ram now. my stick runs at 400mhz, cas2, and some very tight timings, and much cheaper (mostly cause of a price mistake on the website which i got it :))

i dont think its really fair to bash a company so harshly for their past, especially since they are trying hard to improve. if i did the same thing, i would never buy an ATI card with the crappy experience i had from the dual rage pro 128 which was supposed to kick ass.
 
I bought some OCZ PC3200 EL ram approx. 1 year ago that didnt even run at the rated speed. I contacted OCZ technical support, and they told me to RMA the ram. I sent it back on a Tuesday, and got back some Platinum PC3500 EL on Friday! I have had no problems since. I know OCZ has had their problems, but they are trying to improve. The main reason I bought OCZ, is I really like the shiny heatspreaders. :D
 
For workstations and servers (no OC), I buy Crucial. Period.

For [H]ot Rods, OC's, etc., I buy the best deal between Corsair and Mushkin, depending on budget.

Never been burned, no regrets.

I like mushkin myself, but a few of my friends have had great overclocks and memory benches with OCZ 3700 GOLD Rev 2. I would say 3700 GOLD and OCZ 3500 Platinum are as good as any memory out there. No question OCZ has done shady things in the past, but there is also no question their GOLD and Platinum series perform amazing.
 
Why are people saying they are cleaning up they're act?

Recently, they've tried selling Arctic Silver, with no silver.

They admitted to paying for almost all positive reviews.

Almost all review mags gave their memory failed marks, because it wouldn't run at it's rated speeds in a number of boards, even after having the memory replaced several times.

So someone please enlighten me. How is this cleaning up they're act?
 
The big thing to think about is: Why take the chance? There are better companies out there that sell stuff that you don't risk getting burned on. OCZ has lied and decieved before. First time, shame on them. Second time, shame on US for trusting them.

Don't get burned. Spend the little extra for the guarantee of quality.
 
On the other hand people dont rag on Intel for some pretty slanted benchmark programs they put out. People dont say "dont buy intel" They and amd both release processors on paper, nvidia hacks benchmarks, ati almost didnt honor hl2 coupons etc etc etc.

They all do it. However, in this case there are other companies that dont have egg on their face.

I stick with Mushkin and Corsair. Crucial if i'm not OCing

best. ram. ever.

Geil also makes good ram, but i've never used it.

i've said it before, and i'll say it again...
OCZ sucks!
 
I wouldn't get OCZ and I don't recommend you do either...

Getting OCZ is like getting an American car for reliability:D...It was a joke, don't shoot me:p
 
I would try and find a review site that has some ram given to them by OCZ for review. I've heard it's real good stuff. :D
