Short SATA cables?

Does anyone know where I can find some short SATA cables? All of the motherboard-supplied cables these days are damn near long enough to reach a hard drive clear across the room. The distance from my hard drives to the connectors on the board is about 7-8 inches, so these 18inch cables look awful and get tangled up in everything.

You know, I've never seen one. They are all standard at that 18" length, at least the ones I've seen.

I checked around and it looks like you can buy longer ones, but not shorter ones.

I guess they figure since they are so thin, they don't really get in the way anyway.

Fold them over and secure them with tie wraps. Most computer OEMs do that with the cables, so I would assume it's okay. I have both of mine done that way and have no problems.

in addition to the shorter cables, the SATA standard allows for up to 1 meter in length (3.2 ft)

I would also suggest a review of the SATA Cautions thread in the FAQ
regarding the advantages of sheilding and routing

in addition SATA cables have issues with maintaining a secure attachment
so much so that breakage is fairly common, to the point where at least Western Digital has devoloped the
Secure Connect Cable 0.5 meters only
