In the thread about shimmering problem with new NV graphics cards I noticed some people never have had the problem and others have never gotten rid of it. and others have had the problem and fixed it.

it is possible it might be something to do with hardware. i just say that because VIA used to be notorious with PCI problems with high end DSP sound cards (creamware, hammerfall etc)
due to them neglecting or forgetting to implement a rarely used part of the PCI spec.

Could it be something similar. i dont know but it might be interesting to find out.
i have not included ATI chipset because i dont hink many people use them around here. just check other and add a description.

just to make it clear i mean motherboard chipset and not video card chipset.

please do not vote if u are using an ATI card..DUH!

this might be totally unconclusive, i believe the majpority of people here use AMD, as well it could be just some cards made by certain company, or a kazillion other things, it would be nice to narrow it down.

yea I don't know why I didn't think about this :)...although I started taking the results in that shimmering thread. Although I don't know why you don't want ATI users to post...seems like something that should be investigated if its BOTH videocard companies that have shimmering

also like to add...PEOPLE READING THIS...find out what the heck shimmering really is before you say you don't have it and try a few games.

Look at the shimmering thread and you'll see a few examples.
 
i did not post about ATI shimmering because the thread was about nvidia problem.
the only time I have it on ATI is when i make a level and have 2 coplanar surfaces of overlapping objects. it can be seen on any card on my bf level "xhaos lake" where the water is shallow near the airbase. in that case any card will have it, it is a different effect (game engine level designer tardness :) )

i might be wrong but there is no "ATI fix shimmering problem" thread

yeah I reralised that later me = :tard: for that one. I never did a poll here before.
 
Maybe it has to do with chipset drivers :confused:

We need more than 20 votes to figure this out (if it's chipset related.)
 
i left it open ended poll, hopefully enough peoiple will vote to get a sort of idea whats going on.. it could even be bios version as well as chipset drivers. or a certain combination is the only one that doesnt have the problem. this little poll will not likely figure it out.

If you read that thread there are people posting the problem (besides me) that own ati cards. Click page ...11 i think were I have a picture of farcry with a great example of when it happens. But it happens in every game that I play I can see that effect.

You'll find some people don't even know what to look for (take the thread for example that has videos and pictures)

Meh, got it confused, technically the NV40 is called a "chipset" as well.
Should've voted Intel/Intel then.

I don't see how the BIOS or chipset drivers could affect how textures are filtered, which makes this poll :confused:
