SFF Temperature Issues?

I'm sure this question has been answered more than enough times, so sorry in advance if someone is irritated. I currently have a pretty good setup here. Aspire X-SuperAlien case with 500 watt PSU, X800 XT PE, P4 2.8c, 512x2 OCZ Platinum Enhanced Latency RAM at 2-3-2-5, Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, Western Digital 7200 RPM 60 GB HDD, Samsung SP1614C 7200 RPM 160 GB HDD SATA, floppy, a CD RW and DVD-ROM drive.

If I were to get a Shuttle SB65G2, and move the CPU, Graphics, Sound (without the internal I/O), both hard drives, and buy myself a new CD/DVD RW and put it in the shuttle, would it have any problems with temperatures over long periods of time? Long periods of time idle or gaming. I like to play my games a lot and there have been times where I would go to an extreme and play for some 6 or 7 hours straight. And of course there is the old DVD watching. I love to watch movies as well. Will I have to worry about temperatures at all?

By the way, I currently have my 2.8c overclocked to about 3.1 ghz with the help of my goodness CoolerMaster Jet4 HSF and Arctic Silver 5. Will I have any trouble overclocking to that speed and maintaining it in the shuttle? No overclock on my X800 XT PE, as a matter of fact its underclocked on the RAM. Why? It's not branded as an XT PE, I got one of those VIVOs, but apparently the ram was not good enough to run at rated speeds but I was able to unlock the extra pipes. I still get pretty much the same performance as a normal XT PE though at a RAM clock of 470 mhz (I believe thats 940 ddr).

I would also like to add that sound is not an issue for me (Currently have a case with eight 80mm fans and a monster CPU HSF), so if I need to crank up any fans in order to keep a healthy temperature, I'm more than willing to do that.

Another concern I have is power. It looks like the Shuttle SB65G2 has a 220 watt PSU. Will this be enough for the components I plan to use?

if im not mistaken the sb65g2 comes with the 220w psu? considering the x800 doesnt use a lot of extra power you should be able to get by there.

as for heat, i dont forsee any real problems, you might see load temps of as high as mid-60s due to air starvation from your x800 blocking a side. it will probably run a little bit hot but not dangerously.

for instance when i added my sound card in my shuttle, temps went up like 2 degrees. i idle around 38c and rarely see anything above 50 under load. if sound is not an issue for you then you canjust smartfan the fan to 100% all the time. The ICE heatsink is actually very effective, but the stock fan is both loud and somewhat ineficient, you can buy a much better one to improve temps and noise


edit: the 250w silentx psu for around 60 dollars might be a good idea because in addition to the extra power it runs a lot cooler

When you say "you might see load temps of as high as mid-60s", are you referring to the CPU or the video card? I am guessing that you are talking about the CPU but just trying to make sure.

I have also been looking at the SB75G2. It seems to me that this is essentially the same thing as the SB65G2 except a slightly different chipset and no wireless, but it comes with the 250 watt PSU. The only problem is that I can't find it anywhere. I've looked at newegg and tigerdirect and had no luck. If someone could help me find it, I would appreciate it.

If You cut out grill on back and dirll out to 5 mili those little holes on bottom of a XPC and if You use cover with mash and eventualy aftermarket fan with manual regulation Your shuttle will be much cooler. I've have had results of 12+ C less then when running stock.
Like when on smart fan option Shuttles gett to warm. In ultra low and low they also doo not cool sufficient and mid is allready bit to loud. Hence with fan with fan mate or poti You can sett in BIOS full speed and dail in preformance/noise Your shuttle makes. You can also use PCI slot cooler (blower). They lower case temps pretty good. Only they add noise on XPC's with normal cover.
With G chassis XPCs HDD is cooled mostly by it's mounting frame. There is some air flow but not sufficient. So life of a HDD is hard in G chassis XPC. One can though mod bottom of a HDD bracket and install 60 mili flat (10 mili thick) fan to cool HDD electronics. If You are going to use Delta 22 CFM flat 60 mili runn it on 7V it's enough.

All PIV Shuttles in V3 version come with SilentX 250 watt PSU and that one is enoguh to power everything You will be able to put in Shuttle. Most of a Companies sell V3 versions cause Shuttle doesn't deliver V1 and V2 XPCs anymore. Some models are between V2 and V3 but still with 250 watt PSU.
How doo You know is it V3? Well it stands on Box. And if it doesn't (like on SB75) then it stands wich PSU does it have. Like new SB75 comes with old School ICE that is still typical V1 and with 250 watt PSU typical for V3 and sometimes it has new type optical SPDIF connectors and sometimes old type.
On other side much cheeper SB61 (almost same as SB65 but silver and cheeper) comes in V3 with curved ICE radiator with more surface and special fan and better noise controll. Even in same V3 version it comes with different toslink connectors.
Confusion is even bigger cause some Companies say they sell like SBxx but doo not differ wich version and others doo so You don't know what to expect. I went for better price for XPCs I've needed t obuild for someone. I went in Shop wich have had no specification wich version they sell. I've thought cause it's cheeper it must be V1 though they where selling V3 XPCs.
Hence call reseller to read what does it say on box.
Difference between SB61 and SB 75 aint worth of extra 100 $ IMHO specialy if You are going to use real grafic card in both cases. O.K. black is beutifull but one can live with silver color too. Specialy if You invest saved money into more memory. Like here You can have SB61 with 2 GB RAM for almost same price as SB 75 with 1 GB RAM. SB75 will make more memory thruput but 2 GB is 2 GB.

yes i mean the CPU temp. and yeah that comment about cutting the grill off works very well too. I havent tried it but it seems to be the consensus.

the sb75g2 is a very nice model and it would solve any potential power problems you have, the only thing is that it costs 100 more i believe

Another problem is finding it... Still haven't found an online retailer with it on sale. By online retailer I mean the one and only newegg.
