Hey guys!

(I had posted before, but the spamming idiot destroyed my thread) :rolleyes:

Anyway, this weekend we went up to the cottage for a brief 4-day vacation, I decided to bring along my machine for the kids enjoyment incase of any unforseable weather (rain, storms) which actually occured, so it was just as well I did.

However, since the first time I turned it on after arriving at the cottage, my machine has been incredibly slow. Windows hangs on the bootscren (blue bar still moves) for almost a minute now, instead of the usual 15 seconds.

Occasionally, when booting, after the XP splash screen, just before it goes to the welcome screen my monitor will lose signal for about 10 seconds, then it will continue.

Loading various programs has become also incredibly slow.

After checking the event log, I noticed some "Error during paging operation" and "Idle timeouts" on my IDE0. I have a feeling it's a hard drive problem.

It's quite possibly my machine got a nasty jolt in the car, but I was wondering if it's possible that a low level format would fix the problem its having, or any other ways of fixing it, or if im going ot have to refer to the RMA method.

Any input is appreciated.

P4 2.6C @ 3.6
4x256MB DDR400 Mushkin
1x120GB Seagate Barracuda SATA 7200RPM 8MB Cache
AIW9800 Pro
 
You can try the drive tools from the manufacturer. if they don't clear things up, RMA while you can.
 
Drive tools stated nothing was wrong except

File System Structure: Failed with critical errors

Low Level Format completed, and formatted to NTFS, still running slow.....
 
I would rma it while you can. Hard drives can slow down without reporting errors. I've had it happen on 2 old fujitsu drives and 1 older quantum drive...it would literally take 10 minutes for a fresh install of win98 to load on them. Of course, ever since then I've went with Maxtor or Seagate drives for fear of a second coming of that problem.
