setting up crossfire

I know you can put two 1K series 13k-1650s with out the unbilical cord but my question is that I have a system build for a freind and he wants to use crossfire for the current card. He has a ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe what I was wondering was that how would he do a crossfire setup with the X850 XT PE he has. I know that you can use crossfire ready cards but I don't know about the X- serise.
 
um you would have to find an x850 xfire card, not to easy to do i think.
 
yea I have been looking for a 850 crossfire card and i seems that the card would be a little over priced. soo I will just get a pair of 1k sereisecards then.
 
does he need xfire? the only reasons to use it would be for a ultra hi res screen, or if you find a deal on a pair of cards where they would be way under the equivalent single card (like my sli)
 
He would be better off getting a faster single card.
Depending on what he has to spend I would go with one of these if he wants to stay with ATI.

X1650XT 256mb (not pro) $120 - 150
X1950pro 256mb $185 - 230
X1950XT 256mb $245 - 280

Or maybe even better to hold off for about 2-3 months when ATI's DX10 cards should be out.
