What are the settings people use when they say like oh i got 10k in 3dmark05? Everyone would have to use the same for it to be fair... so i dont know y its even adjustable

only the professional version is adjustable, everyone for their score uses default settings, which you get by loading the program and clicking run 3dmark

10000 requires either a good chunk of overclocking on one card, or 2 card config

Yeah dont be stoopid and buy it. Bench it default free mode :D

I've actually got burned by the free version (based on my experience). For starters, you can report only five scores total with the free version - and it will let you publish only one score at a time. (You will have to unpublish the currently published score before you can publish another - and you will have to permanently delete one score before you can report another if you've already have five scores reported - on the free version.) The price that you pay for the Pro version lets you report and publish an unlimited number of scores.

What's more, the free version will not even let you change the resolution, bit depth or AA/AF settings within the program itself (but Futuremark recommends using the program itself instead of the graphics card driver software to adjust most graphics settings, since using the latter may result in inconsistent and/or incorrect scores).

People accually buy the pro version?

Actually, people either buy the Pro version on CD, or they download the free version and then purchase a Pro license for the DL'ed version. (The latter is significantly less expensive than the former: $19.95 for the Pro license for the DL'ed version, versus $29.95 plus shipping for the CD.)

if you want to compare it to others and be fair, run at default.

I agree with that advice, whether you have the free version or paid for a Pro license or CD.

As for the actual graphics card driver settings, the mipmap level should be set at the highest performance setting that the card or driver allows, and the V-Sync should be set to Application controlled or Off (for NVIDIA cards) or Always Off or Default Off (for ATi cards), since 3DMark does not enable V-Sync anyway. The driver's AA and AF settings, however, should be left at application preference when running 3DMark.
