About how long does it take (in CPU time) for you guys to work through (1) Data Analysis Unit? And what are your system specs for that machine?

I have an A64 2800+ which can do the WU between 2-2.5 hrs per unit. If you are planning to join SETI, remember SETI Classic is going offline this year. You are better off going with SETI BOINC where WUs can take upto 4 hrs.

It will be much better if you fold for team 33, of course. Could use everyone. :D

Team 33 is our own [H]ardocp Folding@Home team.33 because that is our team number under stanford. When you start running folding@Home for the first time, you have to specify your username, (which can be anything, just search to see it is not being used ;) ) and team number, just enter 33 for this.

We really could use more [H]ardfolders since we are in a race to get to 100 million and more members are always welcome. :D

Fold away

yeah we could definitely use more [H]ard folders. when i calculated it out last week in another thread, it came out to needing only 100 more users with good machines (well, 100 good machines) for us to take 100 million just one day before Overclockers Australia. which would also have then required 69 days of folding to hit the mark.

in any case, i feel that F@H is a much better cause than SETI - analyse radio waves to chance finding extra terrestrial life, or fold proteins to help science understand and find cures for cancer, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimers... and i forget what else. If that isn't incentive enough, check out this thread and see if you would want to earn a chance to win a new processor.

FOLD ON!!

You mean 98 machines that we need folding. I have a dually machine coming up today, so your total of 100 machines is down to 98.

This machine is folding for the tsunami families that lost their loved ones. I have some relatives and friends that live in that region.

SETI@home for me took anywhere from 80hrs on a win98 333mhz celly w/ mmx (w00t!) machine (GUI) to 2.8 - 3.0hrs on a P4 northwood in a Dell (command line client installed as a service). Up until about 48 hrs ago, i was still working for S@H, but i've been looking enviously at F@H for a while. I finally switched, and i'm glad i did. For SETI@home, i had turned in more work units than 99.6% of the people out there, with almost 10 years of CPU time, so it was a lot to leave behind for me, but as stated earlier in this thread, i (and others) feel a little bit better about letting our otherwise unused cycles go to research rather than SETI@home. And think of it this way: SETI@home is already the largest distributed computing program in history. Why not join the underdog, FoldingAtHome, and fight the good fight? If you still are curious about S@H, i can tell you a more about what kind of performance to expect. Anyway, have a look around here, and hopefully you'll join and help us beat those Australians.... but no pressure :D.

Congrats on switching. Let us know if you need any help getting going. Fold on, bro!

Hey PM me on how to help with this task. Although I don't know anyone personally over there, I can't think of a better cause to use my already-running-24x7 dually MP2400+ system.

Alllllright people, here's this weeks math breakdown, based on the current statistics from http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com a 1:10 AM ish Central time.

OCP: 100,000,000 - 86,520,683 = 13,479,317
13,479,317 / 236,332 = 57.0 days to 100Million
add 10,000 = 54.72 days
at today's 24hour cycle = 54.357 days
add 45,000 (281,332) (281,332 - 247,977 = 33,355)= 47.9 days
33,355 / 200 = 166.775 new boxen.

Aus: 100,000,000 - 89,666,381 = 10,333,619
10,333,619 / 192,780 = 53.6 days to 100Million
10,333,619 / 213257 = 48.5 days
Here's the Cliff notes version - our average is low, but our latest production is much better. However, we need to be producing 33,355 units more per day in order to beat OCAus by one day. This stat is constantly changing, so if at this moment we were to add just 167 new hi-powered (higher end athlonxp, any amd64, i don't know about intel), or 167 boxen that can chug out 200 points per day, then we have got it (also assuming the aussies aren't adding their own, which is unlikely.

So, this State of the Folding Union report, not alarming, but time is running out. every day that we get closer we need to be adding more boxen to make up for it. Fold On! and b0rg well

Our esteemed opponents are suffering the middle of summer right now. We got snow, ice, etc. Their team is "OC Aus". Virtually every CPU they possess can be overclocked at least 20%. It is definately no time to feel cocky, it's recruiting/borging time.

All my windows are open and all boxen are Overclocked sir!
Plus I am building a few more with bOrgs on the way this week.

I've got a new machine in the fight. A64 3500 O/Cd to 2.5ghz. Have a 2.6ghz Celeron Laptop folding 1/2 time also. I'm probably going to retire the slowest system - an XP1900/Biostar board - due to the electric bill.

3 more CPUs folding for Team33...A64 2800+ (at work) and two MP2400+ running in my dually at home.

Will try and get it on my notebook too, but it's a P-3 800. Probably won't help too much. :(

Added an XP 2400+ just a few minutes ago. It's around 50% load with Windows Media Encoder some of the time, but at least it's doing something with the other 50% now.

Another Folding Forcast Report:
As of January 12, 2005 (7:39 EST)
[H]ardOCP: 100,000,000 - 87,611,222 = 12,388,778
12,388,778 / 235,781 = 52 days
Overclockers Australia: 100,000,000 - 90,628,170 = 9,371,830
9,371,830 / 205,088 = 45 days

I am working hard to get as many machines at work borged. I have added 7 the last 2 days. At least 5 more are coming. I got 2 more of my friends to fold. Maybe another tonight! COME ON PEOPLE WE CAN DO THIS!!!!

edit: forgot the [H]orde sig!

Kul. I'll put it on my notebook and my wife's too!

But, a question: we use 802.11b wireless cards in the notebooks. I use a RF transmitter to get satellite TV into our bedroom at night. The wireless notebook cards mess the signal up on the RF transmitter to the TV, so we unplug the wireless cards when we go to bed.

Will that mess folding up on the notebooks? If I unplug the cards at night (when folding is running on them), then plug the cards back in in the morning? Is it smart enough to wait until morning to get on-line for whatever it needs, or will it abort everything?

I believe it will just wait for a connection to become available.

Additionally, I am looking into my new college's policies regarding the use of their computers for distributed computing. I was told that the port is blocked, but i don't think so - find out soon ;) . I think if i go to one of the higher ups in the building, thouroughly explain what it is, how it works, etc. and if i can get permission to add the computers on campus (over 200 1.8 ghz p4's) that will be a huge boon to our production, and more importantly, to F@H in general. It's a long shot, but pray, if you are the praying type, that some good news comes out of that. Most of those computers are lab computers used only some of the time for menial tasks anyway.

Just joined team 33 and started folding. AMD 2600+ with 1gig Ram. Hope this helps us kick some Ass.

I have a couple old rigs lying around, I think I will get then up and running and have them fold as well.

I used to be in SETI@HOME but after they decided to switch to BOINC I got frusstrated and left.

I just installed Folding@Home on my laptop running WinXP Home SP2. Acouple of minutes after installing I got a BSOD error. when the laptop restarted the error said it was with the video driver. I installed a new driver and still got another BSOD. I uninstalled Folding and still recieve the same BSOD.

Please HELP!!!!

What video card do you have? On my desktop, whenever F@H starts, it sends my aiw 9600 pro into a screen reboot (you know, goes black, waits, comes back) and sometimes tells me VPU recovered itself. F@H runs fine, but every bootup.... and on some occasions it just puts the monitor into full power save mode. It doesn't happen on my laptop. I'm running the latest Catalyst drivers, not omega.

rebelleader, my suggestion for you would be to use the console version. It still has configuration functions and folds like a champ, just ... isn't as pretty. the good thing about the console version is that it won't minimize a full screen game every new frame..

There were some problems with the earlier graphical versions, the latest one seems to work fine though. As rOOk stated the console vesion would work as well!
