server: celeron vs p4

Hi,

I'll be renting a server so I can become a web hoster. I have the choice between a p4 and a celeron. The price difference is quite big. I know the p4 is faster but is it that faster? I'll be hosting sql databases (pgsql and/or mysql) and php with apache and a mail delivery system.

Depends how many connections you'll have at the same time.IMO , the Celeron will be fine since there are sites served by a 500Mhz Sparc with 2-3 million hits/day. ( Aceshardware ).

The rule of thumb for this : RAM and HDD speed ( acces time ) are the most important things , not the cpu.
 
Is it a Celeron D (prescott/ 256Kb L2) ? or regular Northwood Celeron (128Kb L2)

If its a Celeron D I'd got with the it and save money.

But if its a Celeron's with 128 L2 I might not get it.... b/c they really do suck since most applications were designed with a minimum of 256Kb of L2 cache in mind.
