Looking for some advice on replacing my Server 2012 Essentials VM at home. I've been using the backup features since WHS 2011.. but with 2012 Essentials my backups keep failing at least once a month.. requiring me to run a repair and I'm tired of it.

What other options are there for a "set and forget" centralized backup with complete restore options? We've currently got 3 laptops and 2 desktops being backed up by the Essentials server right now, all running Windows 8.1. If I can find a process that works with Linux as well as windows.. I may be tempted to migrate my desktop to the dark side ;)

The current Essentials VM is connected to a DroboPro (yeah.. I know, but it was free from work) via iSCSI which is the target for the backups (both server and workstations). I've poured through log files to see if it is possibly an iSCSI disconnect or something similar that corrupts it.. but no luck. It's only the client backups that get corrupted, my server backups going to the same device continue to work fine.
 
What does the operating system running on your file server have to do with backups of client machines?
 
If you are trying to say that I've posted in the wrong subforum.... just say that and direct me to where it would make more sense. Considering I can do a search in this subforum for WHS or Essentials and turn up a number posts.. I figured it was a good fit and better than "general software" or something like that.

Otherwise... Windows Essentials 2012 has a consolidated client backup feature (brought over from the Windows Home Server days). Basically, you install a software client on any windows device on your network to join it to the Essentials server. Considering this is a feature of the OS, which is designed as SOHO storage solution, I thought I might have better luck here from other forum members since backups of multiple devices tends to take a fair amount of storage space.
