I'm in the process of setting up a fileserver. However, I don't want people accessing the data to be able to get at the boot drive, so I want to confine them to one area. (Note, I'm going to use Serve-U, so if anyone knows any way to allow access to more than one place without giving complete freedom, let me know.) I thought that JBOD might be good for this. If not, please make suggestions. I don't want to use up space for redundancy nor risk losing everything if a drive fails.
I'm going to be running an ASUS PC-DL, which has onboard raid for two sata and 2 ide devices. That, however, won't be enough. Is it possible to add in a controller card and then that and the onboard controller to form one JBOD?
I'm looking for an inexpensive solution, since it's somewhat a budget server.
