HI there, this is my first time building a pc and it's giving me a headache. I bought the new parts from new egg. Now, I have connected everything right on the mobo and I can't turn on my pc. It's not the PSU because when I plug it in the light on my mobo goes on. I really have no idea what it could be. I have tried every single thing I know how to do I have been working on it since X-mas. So, I was wondering if anyone that lives in the bay area would be willing to give some of their time to help me "turn on" my pc.

Are you sure you have the power button hooked up correctly? If yes, you might have a DOA motherboard.

Sounds like you might be in over your head, if you can't get it to work take it to a local shop.
 
there is more than one bay-area in America.

Also, I would check your motherboards manual for the correct placement of your power switch connector...you mave have it in the right place now...but it could be upside down....I know my brother did that to his.

What motherboard do you have?
 
A side note, it is impossible for the switch to be "upside-down" since all the switch does is close the "power good" circuit. LEDs can be backward though, but that's besides the point.

Remove all extra cards and IDE devices. Clear the CMOS. Make sure the clear CMOS jumper is on the right side (so it's not always in the "clear" position). Plug in the PC speaker, maybe it will give you beep codes. Reseat the video card, some cards are stupid and finicky. Move the RAM around DIMM slots. Make sure your PSU is set to 110v and not 220v. Reseat the CPU if nothing else works; don't break it. Take the mobo and PSU out of the case, it may be grounding on the metal. Make sure you didn't shock the board with static electricity. Make sure you have the PSU's AUX connector plugged in if it has one.

All of those have helped me get a computer to POST at one time or another. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
 
I have a asus p4s800-mx mobo. Yes I did disconnect the power switch connector a whole bunch of times and I am positive that it's right. I also cleared the cmos, I have the speaker plugged in too. If I did give the mobo a static shock because of the metal would that light on the mobo still light up. Becasue when I turn on my psu it lights up.

Yeah if you zapped it, the light would still come on. I've only seen one or two fried motherboards ever, and usually what happens is that it will power on but no beep codes or anything - but I've seen some good motherboards not do beep codes either, even when the manual says they should.. so who knows.
 
some motherboards don't power up unless the CPU fan is connected to the correct header on the MB, worth checking
