Thats a really good idea, I'm going to start practicing this from now on. better safe then sorry, I've never thought of this. Good thing no ones done it to me yet. :)

hehe thanks, well thats just half the fun
some guy tried to pull that kind of thing off with a digital camera a while back... i sold it outside ebay(on another forum)... i told him to send it back and all...
when i got it and verified that it wasnt the one i sent him... what he got back was:

1) the outside of the package was full of gay stuff(not naked or porn) but signs saying: "handle carefuly, dildos inside"... "best wishes from the (name) gay community".. and stuff of that sort
(careful on that, i went a bit too far and the post office didnt let me send it so i took a pic off)

2) The inside was filled with a bunch of those prank things that pop all over the place once you open the box

3) pics of MY digital camera (with all the proof that he sent me something else)

4) a pic with a stack of money.

5) a note saying that i'm not stupid, and a thank you for sending me a free broken camera which i'd figure out a way to get more money from

i really hope his mom or wife or something got the package :)

Ok, this guy I think is really trying to rob me now. I told him about how you don't need to have the reciepts or anything to do the RMA through MSI. He just told me he's doing the RMA but sending the board back to me. What for I don't know. I emailed him back saying I'll refuse it.

wait so he's taking the board that was "dead" sending it to msi, getting a new or "fixed" one, then sending it back to you so he can get his money back? You should accept the board, see if it works, take a picture of it working, then send him his money back with a thing that says "your a moron;" if your going to get negative feedback anyway.

He wants to send back the board for me to RMA it, then after that I send it back to him I believe. I told him that you can return it without the receipt or anything. I'm not going to accept the package, I already emailed him 3 mins after he emailed me.

Edit:

He just replied saying that he knows I didnt gaurentee it non DOA because I'm wanting to refuse the package if he sends it back

I shipped this thing in 2 boxes! It was ready for WW III If it was dead i woulda shipped the mobo just wrapped in toilet paper.

Is he asking for money back if you have to RMA it for him, cause he should be able to RMA from his address no problem for that.

yes, who is he and did you tell him about this thread? right or wrong, he should at least have the oppertunity to present his side..........

It makes no sense for him to ship it to you, have you process an RMA, wait for the replacement, then ship it back to him. Aside from the obvious, you also have to consider that if this is user error, it could be repeated when you send the replacement and again have the finger pointed at you.

If it were me, I would Paypal the guy $5 (for shipping), send him the RMA link, include a couple of links on how to troubleshoot a PC that will not boot up or POST, and call it a day.

I also agree with the others - link the guy to this thread so he can choose whether or not to present his side.

I didn't want to state a name because He's done nothing wrong until the last email.

I just got an email from him, he read something wrong apparently and though I was supposed to send it back, he corrected himself and apoligized. He's sent the board back to MSI already, I think everything is going to be cool.

He's just a bit fustrated as any of us would be so if this situation does not get worse then I'll just keep his name out of it. I personally don't think he's doing anything on purpose, atleast I hope.

All I know is motherboards can take a licking and keep on ticking. Remember that k7nl that you sent me Mamma? Fed-ex leaves it outside in the rain, and I thought it was dead for sure. However, after hooking it up it worked. Hopefully, you wrote down the serial number of the board you sold him, just in case he had a dead one that he couldn't rma or something.

Nope, never wrote it down. I never thought of that.

Anyway, the guy said the box came in prestine condition so it shoulda been ok. And yea your box was fubar'd, I never packed like that agian.

Again,t eh box being in perfect condition does not mean there wasn't damage to the contents. Most damage occurs to product without damage to the shipping box.

He's got no heatware what so ever, he just told me that the ocz booster was plugged in from the get go and was not turned all the way down :(

Yeah, he's built SOOOOO many computers before. Right.

Has he nuked your Heatware? If so, you know you're dealing with a dumbass. His heat being what it is, he can't afford to take a black mark of any kind.

ouch man sorry to hear that........ I haven't been a part of the FS/FT part of [H] until recently but all I have seen about you is nothing but good comments and feedback from other fellow FS/FT members. I hope that all is well and rectified in the end.

why are you so sure that something did not happen during shipping?

A week or so ago, I tested a video card I was selling and someone bought it. He got the video card, tested it and said it didn't work. When I got the card back it did not work. So I refunded him his money.

My brother sent me a working motherboard (keep in mind this my brother) I had left there. When I received the package the board did not work. It happens sometimes even if it is packed safely and carefully.

This is just part of buying and selling. Stuff goes bad during shipping and its not always the users fault.

Did you read the complete thread? I don't think so.

I do agree with you that there is a possibility that it could be my fault, however, if you read how he used the DDR booster strait from the get go at a high voltage, that is the main reason I believe the mobo went dead. If you ever used DDR boosterd you'd know that you have to set it to its lowest before anything, he didnt. When he told me this I think I could conclude what I did.

I'm not that single minded to believe it could only be the users fault and not mine because this incident has happened to me before with a member here before and we gotten it resolved with out this.
