I have a Silverstone SFX 450w PSU. It is a standard (non-modular) powersupply.
In an effort to make the innards of my mini-ITX cleaner, i cut off excess cables and used heatshrink to prevent shortages.
So I cut off 2 sets of wires:
1) the entire molex series. (Because I have no molex devices)
2) a series of wires that had a pair of 4-pin plugs at the end. (I thought this plug was used for oldschool p4 systems)
I wrongly assumed these 4-pin plugs weren't used for the motherboard because there was also a cable that had a large ATX looking plug that also had a 4 pin extra plug on that cable. And on my motherboard (Gigabyte H55N) there is the standard large plug that is 24 pins and then a small 4 pin plug. So I just thought it would all work out...
However, when I went to plug everything up, the large motherboard plug was actually 4 pins short. The large plug was only a 20-pin plug! And it looks like I have to use the "extra" 4-pin plug to fill up the 24-pin socket on the motherboard.
So... am I screwed? Do I need to get a new powersupply? I don't have anymore 4-pin plugs from the powersupply to plug up to the 4-pin socket on the mobo.
I would greatly appreciate any kind of input on this.
Thanks
