When i backup any files larger than 1gb, it seems to hang in the middle and crash. It freezes up my system to the point where i have to hold the power button down. Its on a USB 3 PCI-E card. I tried both ports. I even exchanged the drive today for a new one and its doing the same thing. Im still rocking an X58 setup with Win7 64 with all the updates.

Also if i backup multiple files that equal more than 2gb, it freezes. It only works when doing small groups of files at a time.

Could i be maxing out the pci-e lanes with having 2 7970's already? I'm not sure if its the pci-e usb 3 card or my mobo.

My friend has one that does the same thing. Funny part is he can copy any amount of files when it is plugged into USB 2.0 slots. Absolutely no problems (besides being slow) with USB 2.0 slots.

yeh, its plugged into a 2.0 right now and its working (just slow) This upsets me :(

I'm not going to upgrade everything just to get USB 3:rolleyes:

Perhaps an issue with the chipset on the usb 3.0 card. Do you have the latest drivers for that card? Sometimes you can even flash the firmware for the usb 3.0 card.
Could be the pcie slot it is in as well.

What card is it?

Which USB card is it?

I have Z77, so native USB 3. But I did try out my evga PCI-E USB 3.0 card and I wrote 1.2TB of data...

No issues at all.

I have tested an ETRON based usb 3.0 card (Syba 4-port SY-PEX20136) and transferred 100s of GB myself, but it could be a compatibility issue between his board and a particular usb chipset for all we know.

It must be a issue of compatibility with your card and the seagate.

It's an issue with any drive i hook up to the PCI-e usb 3 card :) Its a blue D-link DUB1310. Is there firmware for this card? I had the latest drivers installed for it.

I had a 7970 in there months ago and it worked fine (middle slot)

A quick google shows other users having issues with it also.

I would pick up another card. I have a eVGA usb 3.0 pci-e 1x card you can have for cheap if you really want. Just pm me.

that would be nice :) I live in canada if that makes any difference. If i dont get yours, which one would you recommend? We have a Memory express here.

Picked up a silverstone EC03B-P 2 Port USB3.0 Bay and updated the drivers. Everything's working now :)
