Ok so im building a File server. Im looking on ebay for SCSI controllers and drives... I have no clue what to look for... I do not care TO much about speed of writing and reading. What Used not "The best out" Controllers and Drives do you recommend? Thanks.
 
MegaRAID 1500 and some 18Gb Atlas 10K III's would make a hot (old) setup.
How much are you looking to spend?
Cheap SCSI is going to be old, and quite possibly outpaced by current IDE.
 
Well i do not want to spend 200 per HD nor do i want to spend 200 for a card.....



If that is to low, Then i guess i will go IDE.
 
Scsi is expensive, ide is not, sounds like you'll need to go ide then if 200 is too much.
 
A quality SCSI setup can easily be had under $200, if you're willing e-bay.
LSIU160 or Adaptec 19160 HBA, ~$50
Your choice of a drive, I would recommend as recient of a 73gb 10K drive as you can get, Cheetah 10k.6, Fujitsu MAP, Atlas 10K IV, any of thoes can be had for around or less than $150.

Through eBay I got all my SCSI stuff for around $184 including shipping.. :) Granted it was only a 36GB drive, but if you're willing to sacrifice RPM then you could easily get a much larger capacity drive. Since you're not really looking for speed that would be a good way to go.
 
If speed is not an issue for you, why are you looking at SCSI at all. I see no benefit other than speed. I assume these drives at Overstock have mgfr. warranties?
 
I got my Adaptec 3400S RAID controller (4 channel, U160) of ebay for $125, and then got fourteen 36 GB Seagate Cheetas from work for $420 total and some Compaq 7 bay enclosures for free. All total $545 for a 407 GB redundent SCSI array goodness :) SCSI isnt as expensive as many people think if they know where to look.
