Hello boys and girls.
I'm new to this forum, so I do not know for sure if I'm posting in the right topic
Here's my problem:
I've been playing a fps game called AVA (running on a unreal engine) for a year now, without having problems with it ever. Out of nowhere the game started to look laggy/choppy. I also noticed that my fps, which before this accident always was ~200, started to drop regularly, and it never being stable: not even for a half of a second I had the same fps. It's kinda hard to explain but it's like a countdown timer but then 10 times as fast, and it's not only going down but also up.
So my first impression was that this bugged(?) fps was causing my game to not play smooth anymore.
Since then I've searched for a couple days on the internet for solutions. The thing that caught my attentions was screen tearing. This thread discribes my problems exactly: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/333750-33-refresh-rate-problem. So I tried turning vsync on in my nvidia settings combined with triple buffering on. It did help a bit, but my overall smoothness is still nowhere near wat it was like before. On top of that vsync caps my fps at 60, due to the 60Hz refresh rate of my monitor (syncmaster SA350). Before I could play this game with every fps from 0 to 200 stable, but now its forcing me to play with 60 fps which is not as stable as any fps setting before.
So: vsync on -> 60 fps + decent smoothness/ vsync off -> higher fps, althoug with frequent drops + not smooth at all.
Here is some extra information:
- nvidia 530GT
- intel core i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00 GHz
- before this occurance I updated my eset nod 6 AV to eset nod 7. (dont see how this can be a problem?)
- I have the same problems in CS:GO, which makes me believe its pc related
- i read something about hyperthreading, but I cant acces that option in BIOS due to my hp pc (whyy??)
- my pc is connected at my monitor with a RGB cable. Although this has ever been so (and it worked good in the past), im thinking on picking up a HDMI cable
If any of you knows what caused this screen tearing that appeared out of nowhere, or has anything else to say what might be relevant, please feel free to leave a reply.
I'm really stuck now and really want to play games normally again.
greets,
Rplay
