I've been using my 2405FPW for a good 4 or 5 months now, and I'm loving it (mostly).
One of the things that REALLY has started getting to me is this whole screen tearing issue, and it really baffles me that this issue hasn't been properly dealt with by either the hardware manufacturers or the software developers..
VSync is not an acceptable solution on its own, as the performance implications basically make all games unplayable. It's one thing when your frame rate fluctuates between 60 and 30FPS, its another thing entirely when it jumps straight from 60 to 30 with nothing in between!
Triple Buffering is great... but why oh why is it not supported in the majority of games?!? Why is this not enabled/disabled through the software drivers just like AA, AF and VSync?? (I realize openGL support exists for this... but where's our directx support?)
Why are we still dealing with this problem? Why isn't it standard practice to support or force triple buffering in 3d games?
Look at console games, they have been tear free for... well, forever. Consoles games are being rendered at 60Hz, so why hasn't it ever been an issue for them. And if they can do it so easily, why can't this be so easily implemented in PC games? Is it just lazy developers or something? I can tell you one thing; console gamers would not put up with any kind of screen tearing in their games. Why do we have to settle for less?
This is just one more of those little quirks about PC gaming that I think is forcing gamers to the consoles. Console gamers don't have to deal with these stupid quirky issues that never seem to be dealt with, and detract from the end game experience.
What do you guys think?
So my rant is over... maybe someone can tell me that I'm completely wrong and I just have to push this special button and all my screen tearing issues will go away forever
