I'm going from a 17" 'crap' LCD to a 2001FP which just got here, and I tried setting to 2001FP, but I literally almost can't read the text on the screen. Is this just a matter of getting used to it?

I bought this monitor to be easier on my eyes, not so I'd have to stretch to see.

Is it common to go to something like 1024 on a 2001FP, or is that a big no-no?
 
I own a 2005FPW and the text seems alomst the same size as 1024x768 seemed on my 17" CRT. Maybe there is a driver or option you have to install for the screen to adjust the size of text, etc, in Windows?

That's why I'm asking here :)

Thanks for your input. That's what I'm looking for. Something to "adjust" 1600x1200 to readable text sizes.
 
In diplay properties go to advanced, and change font size from 96dpi to 120 or whatever u find comfortable.. and then go to display properties --> appearance -> advanced, and modify desktop elements to ur liking :D
 
True text scaling will have to wait till Microsoft's next gen OS, as the current built in version is buggy at best. Until then, you'll have to get used to the small text.

Precisely. For the most part, it does not work. When it does work, the text/icons gets fuzzed or blocky, text in windows go out of place, and generally gets worse as you increase the DPI. Just a bad implementation from the start, I guess.

It's got more to do with application implementation than anything in the OS. Developers generally don't examine the system metrics, and hard-code fonts, misunderstand the font selector, and then don't get their measurements right when settings change from the default.
 
Don't forget to enable clear-type if the text bugs you enough.
 
do you have a 6600gt? mine had the same problem. i had the bfg6600gtOC, i just ended up getting a 6800gt

Although that may be true, an excellent example is IE. True that the OS and IE are developed by different teams, but Microsoft is still Microsoft, and the changing the DPI really doesn't help make the text any larger, and neither does the built in font size selector. Just a bad implementation from the start, and Longhorn is supposedly supposed to fix all these issues.
