i've got a new 17" widescreen (16:9 ratio) lcd flatpanel monitor. what i want to know is what is the best resolution for it's wiiiiiideness.

Depends on what it supports, and whats too small for you. 1280x720, 1440x960, 1776x1000, 1920x1080 etc...
