when i did some modding recently i ended up putting some scratches in my case window...was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how to take them out? would something like a buffing compound work??
 
You'll never get it perfectly clear again, but Brasso does wonders for case windows and ipods!
 
With the right buffing compounds, you can get it scratch free and clear as new. You'll need a few steps with successively finer compounds. Check with plastics suppliers for the right products.
 
I'm not a fan of brasso but some people swear by it...just not meant for acrylic IMO.

Try Novus fine scratch remover. Check tap plastics. In general, if the scratch is too deep just get a new window since acrylic is cheap.

BTW - it might be worth trying out your technique on a scrap of acrylic before taking on the real thing,
 
Not to thread jack, but since we are on the topic of scratches:

I have some scratches on the bare aluminum frame of my external liquid cooling enclosure. The aluminum is polished to a mirror-like finish. Would using a dremel with the "buffing" attachment give good results with 3M rubbing compound? I've always polished by hand, but it can be very time consuming, and I'd think that the buffer on the dremel would give better results when trying to get scratches out.

are they in the frame or on the sides? what i'm getting at is that if its just the frame as in like the posts that are thin then a dremel should work...if its a larger surface like a side or significantly bigger than the buffing pad your better off using something like a drill and buying a larger buffing wheel and using the drill or something along those lines....
 
Acrylic scratches can be removed with Blue Jewelers Rouge or a simpler soultion would be to use Rain-X windshield treatment which polishes and hides scratches or a commercial eyeglass scratch remover.

Yes, it is just the frame, so the buffing wheel is just the right size. I am just afraid that the speed will be too high and cause more scratches than buffing. *shrugs*. I'll try on a piece of scrap first.
 
I use a butane torch to get rid of scratches in acrylic myself. When it heats up it fills in the scratches perfectly and if done right, you'd never have a clue there ever was one there.

It can also be used to round the edges of stuff you cut yourself.

Careful though, torches will bubble the surface...
