Scratch-Built: Glowboxen.

I think a cube but I'm having a hard time getting past that clutter on the taskbar wow

yea... heh.. that and the quicklaunch bar.

On the taskbar: BitTorrent, Winamp, Task Manager?, AIM, network connection, Zone Alarm, Sound Manager, Safe Hardware Removal tool, and I'm not sure what the last one is.
On the Quickaunch: Mozilla Firefox, AIM, ??, Winamp, ??, ??, Nero, ??, ??, Skype, Folder of some sort, Lemonade Tycoon?.

that's a lot.

yeah, I like my quicklaunch. I have no shortcuts on my desktop, but in the quicklaunch I have show desktop, firefox, trillian, winamp, thunderbird, steam, america's army, peer guardian, bitcomet, photoimpact, and picasa2.
no desktop clutter for me.
I like to keep my taskbar empty, my pc is slow and running a lot of tasks slows game performance.

six squares make a cube, or a box, or a rectangle.

Well, folks, if we're thinking in 3 dimensions(which the real world happens to exist in, for practical purposes), six squares make a cube.

As for the quicklaunch- I don't use my desktop. It's blank black. Here's what I've got on it:
Firefox, DeadAIM, SolidWorks, WinAmp, Limewire(don't use that much anymore..), Gspot(codec identifier), Nero, Dev-C++, Topstyle, Skype, a shortcut to my C:\CRAP home dir, and ipodder.

The case is going to be based on the cube concept, with four 1/4" UHMW plates forming the walls, and tapped 1/8" thick Al angle holding them together. This white UHMW lets a lot of light through, so I'm hoping the four blue cold cathodes I've got for it will shine straight through it- if not I can mill patterns/words into the inside of the UHMW, making those areas brighter.

I'm still working on the UI-ish bits of the design, but I'm thinking that one of the seams needs to be hinged, and thumbsscrews should be used, so two or three panels can swing open to access the innards.

Another thing I learned on my last case that I'm probabaly going to incorporate into this is standard racks/holespacings for drives, to make expansion a little easier.

I'll post CAD shots as soon as I can.

CAD got tedious, so I've decided to "just do it". Here's some pics of the UHMW when backed by cathodes. I'm thinking one per side slantways aall in one direction, then perhaps four or five fans in the top to continue the pattern of sameness.

I've got to figure out a way to conceal the handle and ports when not in use, too- I want people to have to fumble around figuring it out- I've even decided to get some 1/4" screws, same size, head shape, finish, and interface type as the ones I'm using to really fasten it- so I can add fake fasteners to the hinged side(s) :D

Yeah. I decided to redesign it- it's a tower now. Same materials, much less wasted space.
pics and ongoing updates are over at my log:

I built the first joint today, I ended up using a bunch of big, black 10-32 pan head philips machine screws I got awhile back and never used. It's purty. If the rest of it turns out like this, I'll be a happy camper. :D

Been waiting on parts, and they're here!
Building will commence tonight, as the new mobo's here.

I've got quite a bit of framing work done- the UHMW for the top and bottom enclosures is cut to size, and the angle has been cut, drilled and tapped- I've basically got the top and bottom ends together. Next up is bribing machinists.
I've made a page for this project over on my site:

As they've not been posted here yet, here are some drawings I did to work out where things would go:

I'd put some pictures of it up, but my only camera right now is a 1.3MP POS. Maybe I'll see if I can borrow a friend's.
