Since supreme commander is comming out next year sometime I had this wave of nostalgia and installed total annihilation again for some old school death and destruction. The problem though is the CD's are pretty dogeared being like 10 years old and all.

So I used toothpaste to grind off the major scratches. (colgate)
Toothpaste is a microabrasive, just as good as the kind you pay $40 for in those cd repair kits. Its a little more messy and hands on but its a good way to save some cash.

Usually just the toothpaste works and the scratches it leaves are generally too small to bother the laser during the read process. I guess I pushed too hard or maybe the colgate was a little different then the last tube because the scratches seemed to be alot more visible then they generally are. And so I thought for about 15 minutes on a way to smooth them out even more so I could save the CD.

First I thought crayon, but the colors in the wax would probabally make it unreadable.

Then I had an epiphany! Pledge is a spray on for cleaning/maintaining finished wood. It has a detergent for cleaning crap off the wood and a wax for filing in small abrasions. So I gave it a try on the TA cd, and it worked like the stuff was made for fixing cd's. You could still see the scratches there against the light, but for the purposes of making the cd readable it worked perfectly.

Plus it has that lemon fresh scent now!

You only need a tiny ammount of it for the cd, a quick little squirt then rub it around.

Yeah before you start getting on my ass I didn't notice the optical forum up top
