Just installed Seagate SATA hdd on Abit NF7-S but cant seem to install WinXP. Cos WinXP can't seem to detect the hdd but hdd gets detected on NF7-S SATA startup screen. I've tried pressing F6 at start of WinXP setup to install SATA driver from floppy but it always skips that part.
I think problem is cos the hdd hasn't been formatted but if thats the problem how can i format it without using startup disk, etc?

I had the same problem with windows recognizing the hard drive as sata. Go to seagate's website and download the drivers, I believe its discwizard or something like that and it makes 2 floppy disks and install the drivers and it should work

http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/drivers/discwiz.html

the discs can work by themselves they allow you to partition and format and all that goodness so it should be ready to go once you do that,

:::no mouse support::: kinda sux you gotta tab alot

do what Notquiteanewbie said and when the instaltions begging dont stop pressing F6 until you end up in the screen to add the drivers :)

you may also need the NF7-S Sata controller driver!

Okay...let's clear some stuff up. You DO NOT need hard drive drivers. You need to load the drivers for the controller. Your right by thinking you need to hit F6. XP is touchy there, so hit is often from the first time it pops up on screen. Hit it until your PC beeps! Then stick in the floppy that came with the mobo, and your all set.

djnes si completely......right! I just installed windows on a sata drive on my nf7-s. use the floppy that came with the motherboard...hit F6 when the installation starts...and you are all good.

thanks all for the help. but still having same problem. i've downloaded disk wizard from seagate but haven't tried yet, cos i dont have any floppy disk.

after pressing F6 like million times i was able to get into controller selection screen. i tried all of them but i still get same error (winxp cant detect hdd).

which one of following SCSI Adapter do i have to choose after press F6 in WinXP setup?
Intel(R) 82801ER SATA RAID Controller for Windows XP & 2000
Silicon Image Sil 3112 SATA RAID Controller for Windows XP
Silicon Image Sil 3114 SATA RAID Controller for Windows XP
VIA SATA RAID Controller for Windows XP

i've also formatted hdd with low-level format from NF7-S SATA controller options (F4 when pc boots up, its new hdd).

That's odd.. the only time I needed a disk with SATA drives and windows xp setup is when I put the in raid (sata raid 1 on the abit AI7). But other times when they were running seperately, I didn't need any controller drivers..

In the bios go into the OnChip IDE devices and them select, OnChip Serial ATA Mode option and set it to IDE mode. I think that might be your problem.
Just like it's shown in the hardocp review of the AI7.

I'm assuming you have that option :)
