I got a new serial ata hdd and it wont work. we got no floppy drive to install the drivers off of. if anyone can help me find drivers, i have a 160gb maxtor drive. thank you for your help.
 
You shouldn't need any drivers. Try a different cable. SATA cables ar WAY too fragile.

Some boards with a 3rd-party SATA controller will need drivers. Only chipsets with native support for SATA can get away without drivers.
 
Though, the topic sata sucks is a bit off, more user error than the fault of sata.
 
well, ive been looking for some drivers, and i found some. they need to be installed from a floppy drive. this file i downloaded is like 10 mb and it obviously wont fit on a floppy drive. any help now?

Was looking at driver files at MSI, I take it you SATA controller is a VIA? Anyway, if you extract that file you should find a folder labers Drivers or something similar, one of the folders is for SATA and IDE drivers and can be simply copied to a floppy.

I can look at the file if you provide a link to the one you used.
 
awwww dude. you got my hopes up. i found that file then found what i needed specifically, but it still doesnt work. the error message reads something like: line 2108 missing.
 
Most likely corrupt floppy disk causes that specific error. Try a different floppy disk, possibly even a different drive.

You can get this Abit multi controller driver pack here (it includes drivers for Via VT8237 SATA, which is the chip on your board) or slipstream the drivers into an XP CD.
 
we got those drivers, but still no luck. today were gonna switcfh out the floppy, and see if that was corrupt.
 
Do you have a USB drive? Perhaps you can copy the drivers to that and have some success...
 
Im guessing that you are trying to install windows on to that SATA drive? Like SCSI, you have to copy the CONTENTS of the folder needed straight to the floppy disk; not the folder itself. Then you can load the needed driver when doing yer install. Slipstreaming it onto the winXP disk would be even easier tho in the long run.
