SATA "safely remove hardware" question

hi . i just built my new system iwth a 7200rpm 80gb western digital SATA harddrive. i installed windows and whatnot, when i boot into windows in the tray i get the "safely remove hardware" icon -- the type you get for thumbdrives and ipods, and it lists my sata harddrive? is this normal? is there a way to make it go away? im pretty sure if i removed my harddrive i'd have problems :)

any helps is greatly appreciated since this is the first time i've used a SATA harddrive

Serial ATA is hot swappable, according to the specifications.

so you're saying that it SHOULD show up in the safely remove hardware? so do most people just run with it like that? or should i do something to remove it from there since it's my primary/only/permanent storage device?
 
Enable write cacheing on that drive via the Device Manager and that should clear the problem up.
 
i've got a screen that says "optimize for quick removal" or "optimize for performance"

if i ENABLE write caching then it says the icon will show up (optimize for performance)

if i DISABLE it, then it says i can just hot swap it without using safe removal icon (optimize for quick removal)

but i dont want to take a performance hit over it...what should i do?
 
my friend tells me his doenst even show the icon

i tried disabling it so the icon would go away..but it didnt
 
His doesnt show it because his is probably a boot drive. Mines a boot drive and doesnt show it. Enable write cache for it and just make sure to not unplug it while its on =)
 
I thought it was suppose to be like that. I always see it in my system tray. Ever since I got my Raptor.
 
it might be something on AMD platform boards. I have three separate Intel machines, all with primary SATA drives, and none of them show up as removeable.
 
Or you cant remove it because its your primary boot drive, and why would you remove it? :p

I believe it does it for ADDIN Sata drives because they are not the boot drive.

mine is my primary boot
