sata raid config install windows????

ok i hope this is in the right spot but i just got my motherboard back from an RMA and now im trying to set everything up. Im trying to install a fresh version of windows. Windows installer installed my silicon image raid thingy from my floppy drive and when it asks me where i want to install windows it shows both sata drives. the only problem is it doesnt allow me to choose both drives as a raid. any idea what i need to do?
 
also to mention i have an asus a7n8x deluxe mobo. and 2 seagate 120 gb sata drives. also can you partition a raid set?
 
u have to go to the bios for the raid

take the windows disc out

u should have to press like F5 or Ctrl+F5 or something, it'll say

then in there, set the raid up

then try it
 
yes thank you. i set it as a stripped with 128 k. the only question i have now is in windows setup it detects it as a 240 gig harddrive? is this normal?
 
i just finished the windows install and it show my drive is 240 gigs big? when you do a raid 0 config is it suppost to do this? i thought it was only suppose to show it as 120 gigs total?

120+120 = 140 :) hehe

With RAID0 it adds the size of the two drives togethor so it acts like one large hard drive. Its why people say RAID0 isn't real safe if you have very important data on your hard drive because if one fails they both fail.

RAID1 is "mirrored" and you would only have 120GB then because the second 120GB drive would just be a backup of the other drive.

RAID1 is just for backup while RAID0 adds the two drives sizes togethor and increase read and write speads around 20-30% or more.

well the part that confuses me now then is this. If i have the one partition at 90 gigs. is that 45 from one drive and 45 from the other? if i fill it up with 10 gb's of data is 5 gonna go to one and the other 5 to the other?
 
actually im even more confused now. I thought that with raid 0 that if i copied over a game it would store half the game on one harddrive and the other half on the other. then when your running it and its pulling a texture it pulls half from the one and the other half from the second and that is what makes the reads faster? am i wrong here? also see the above post.

weird i cant get past 3 with my fingers :(
 
in raid 0 with two hard drives say hard drive one is A and drive 2 is B, youll see them in windows as one large drive. the raid controller splits it up just like you say but it doesnt split the file in half, ok say you have a 32kb file and your raid is set up for 8kb chunks when you install things to the drive the raid controller sends the first 8kb to drive A then 8kb to drive B then 8kb to drive A and the last 8kb to drive B totaling in 32kb for the file size it does that for every file trying to keep the drives as even as possible
