Hey doods...

I bought a ASUS AV8 Deluxe mobo alittle while ago and i finally decided to get SATA. Bought a Seagate 120gig drive and tried to install it..my computer kinda recognized the drive and then tried to enter the VIA's SATA bios. Once it came up i had options to pick from but none of them were highlighted and all i could do was to hit ESC(yay) although in the BIOs my drive did show up. ugh..so anyways i thought id continue to install windows and everything ran smooth right till i hit the desktop...installed some games, played them, ran the internet etc. Ran totally fine. Next day i went to start my system on the seagate drive and all i got was "theres no bootable drive".

To make a long story short...i also bought a raptor 10k drive and still nothing...my motherboard miss reads the name of the drive and calls it something else. Like FX Try 1 - some inane word.

lol sorry i just came back from a 12hr shift and i can't type worth a hoot.
 
Try each drive individually. This phenomenon has happened to me on a Via chipset with Raptors before. In my case, it showed up as a PATA WD400BB at first, then the BIOS ID string for the drive become totally unrecognizable after a few reboots, much like you describe.

I would also look for a BIOS update for your mobo, especially if you see a version on the manufacturer's website that specifically addresses storage issues and/or includes an SATA BIOS update.

yeah ive tried everything to get the drives to work properly. Tried all 4 SATA ports with different sata connectors and power connectors and still notta.

I'am going to check the ASUS site again as u meantioned to see if theres any updates for the SATA Bios.

by the way could Overclocking affect SATA?
 
Since Ice Czar is an admin now and doesn't have time to do this :p [thread=761272]Corruption 101[/thread] There you will learn that both overclocking itself, as well as RAM frequencies that are not 100% stable, can corrupt hard drives.
 
ahh.. but Admins are masters of the search feature
