SATA Master, EIDE Slave?

Is this possible? If so, whats the best way of going about this? My friend just ordered a Gen 4 Dell XPS, featuring SATA hard drives, and god knows what else. He has an EIDE 200 Gig that he got within the last month, is he gonna be able to slave it? If its a Dell, i doubt there will even be IDE slots (CD rom drives maybe?) . .. Anyways, would a config like this even be possible? If so, lend some insight, Im not sure on the topic, as I've never bothered with SATA

umm, SATA drives dont really have masters and slaves, each drive is on its own channel.

It is highly probable that the PC still has IDE channels for the optical drives, just make is a master drive on one of those
 
it will automatically pic up which ever has the OS installed on as master as well
 
And in the bios, you can specify what drive to boot. Mine does with a list of SATA drives to boot.
