Hi everybody New to the site and need some help


I know this problem sounds like Im an idiot but its driving me nuts

Ive browsed the site but cant find an answer specifically that helps

Building a new computer Abit Nforce 550 with AMD64 4200x2 and a new SATA 2 drive Geforce 7600gt ...

Its been awhile since my last build

Things were going well after starting windows xp home until I got to "press f6 for 3rd party drivers " Pressed "s" and inserted Abit NVRAID 64 bit driver disk, which came with motherboard, in floppy it was read as corrupt! (brand new disk) I downloaded driver from Abit web site, extracted to Floppy and tried again. This time after pressing "s" it said readtext.OEM not found I looked at the floppy and that file is there! I dont know if Im messing up something as simple as extracting the zip to the floppy. should I extract first and then copy the files to the floppy? I tried this a few times and the floppy is either read corrupt or cannot find readtext.OEM I know this sounds pretty basic but its driving me nuts!! AM I doing something wrong with the download any other suggestions?

There's a guide here that explains the process for nForce 4 boards. I would be surprised if nForce5 was much different.

I was not aware that there was a Windows XP Home x64. Otherwise, you are using a driver for the incorrect microarchitecture, if you are indeed trying to load a 64-bit driver.

Also, if you are not running a RAID setup, I believe that you don't need a driver to install windows. I have recently installed Windows XP Pro on an nForce4 (not 5!) board on a single SATA-disk without supplying or slipstreaming a 3rd party driver.

Are you saying I cannot install SATA 64 bit drivers if I am using the Windows xp home edition ?

Again, my setup is ABIT KN92-Nforce 550
AMD 64 4200x2
WD SATA 250 GB

I thought the SATA 64 bit drivers were the ones to install maybe that is why I am getting corrupt file reading from windows after installing at F6. I still dont understand why in BIOS the sata hard drive is configured as an IDE I have been told with windows xp 2 It should recognize the SATA hard drive
