I have an ASUS A8V deluxe MB, Athlon64 3200+, 1GB Ram, a WD Raptor 37.5 GB SATA HD (I would like this to be the boot drive) and a WD 200 GB SATA Drive.

The MB has 2 sets of SATA connectors, both of which look for a RAID setup. How do I configure the 2 drives and get WinXP to install?

Thanks for your help.

are you saying you want to run the drives in RAID. If so you cant because they are not the same size. If all you want to do is install XP on one of the drives there should be something in the BIOS to not make it RAID enabled. I know my mobo has that and I am preatty sure an Asus board would as well.

You can install Windows on the Raptor and use the installer to format it and everything.

Once that's done, use Windows to format the other drive.

Do I just put in the Raptor and install WinXp? Do I put the Raptor on the SATA Raid FastTrak Controller, or the VIA Raid?

put the raptor on whatever the primary SATA connector is then you should be all set. Just remeber when setting up XP it may not have the drivers built into for dectecting the HDD on the SATA controller so you will need to use the floppy disk with the drivers for the install to work right.

OK, I hooked the Raptor to the SATA VIA 1 connector; (disconnected the 200GB completely). Booted up with the Winxp Installation disk, went through the 1st part, put in floppy disk..it said it would load the VIA driver..finished preliminay setup, rebooted and just started over. Apparently, it is not seeing the drive, or something. What am I doing wrong?

Yes, I did the F6 thing and it said it would load the driver.
No, I dod not format & partition...I thought that I would be able to do that when XP was installing. Do I have to do that first, and if so, how do I do that?
