My new 74GB Raptors came with SATA cables that also have the power connection. Can that power connection draw too much from the motherboard? Would it be better to use a normal SATA cable and get power directly from the power supply?
 
Those cables don't get power from the motherboard, they simply connect to the power connector for a more solid connection. If you use that, you must use a 4-pin molex as well.
