I just bought two SATA 3.0 hard drives and I'm wondering if I need to get SATA 3.0 rated cables to go with the 3.0 rated drives. Or is it like USB 2.0 where it's incumbent upon the device in the sitsuation and not the cables?
 
get any sata cable, it'll work just fine. The 'Sata 2' cables are 100% pure marketing.
 
The SATA 2 cables are slightly improved actually. It has nothing to do wiht data rate, though. They have metal retention clips to secure them to the SATA port.
