I'm seeing all sorts of insane overclocks on Conroe using god knows what cooling systems. What I'm having a hard time finding is some idea of how it'll overclock with just a normal water cooling setup, no peltiers/vapor phase/liquid nitro etc. I'm eyeing the E6600 and need to figure out what speed RAM to get... I've seen the chart for recommended RAM speeds for a given OC of the 6600, but I have no idea how high I should expect it to go. :) Any thoughts?
 
Rough guess, but 3.4-3.6 range on water cooling is probably a safe bet. Some people on XS were reaching 3.3 on air/stock voltages with the E6600. High end OC might be around 3.8 or 3.9 GHz. It's really hard to tell with only so few results. Production models can be totally different than ES models when it comes to overclocking.
 
The 6700 does 3.3 Ghz on air and stock volts, so with higher volts you can probably do around 3.4-3.8 on air. The E6600 will probably be the new "2.4c".
 
Definitely above 3.0GHz at stock voltage...maybe above 3.4GHz at stock voltage. From there on, you'll probably need to pump some more juice to it.

these are going to be lga 775 or socket 775 correct? just seeing if my water block will fit or if it will have some new socket design like the am2 did
 
They are LGA775. They do not work with a single LGA775 board on the market, but they are socket compatible.

the Intel D975XBX Revision 304 is 100% Conroe compatible and is widely available

Last I checked, the market was glutted with a load of Rev 302 boards. Supposedly, Newegg is still trying to exhaust their supply of Rev 302s.

Yes, there are a ton of 302 boards, but that doesn't mean the 304 isn't available.
Most Fry's have them.
 
mmm 3.0Ghz! id be hapy with that...

shit the last CPU I have owned that could do 3.0Ghz stable was my AthlonXP-M 2600+ @ 2.2v on chilled water (<30c cpu)

I have yet to get any other CPU compleatly stable at 3...
 
Heres...stable @ 3.23Ghz stock vcore (1.32V)...and this with 1.41V...
Cooling with TT big thypoon..

Intel eist automatically defaulted multi to 6X when idle and 10X @ load..

Is there a way to turn off EIST on Conroe so that the chip always runs at full speed?

Then buy more Intel LOL!
 
Thanks for the feedback/guesses. For now I'll bank on getting PC2 6400. Looking at my A64 3200's 44 second Super Pi, I too would be absolutely thrilled by 3.2 ghz Conroe... but of course even more thrilled with 3.6. :D

yea, im was kinda crazy with the volts on my AXP stuff... I had a few good socket A CPUs laying around so I could afford to kill one or 2.. but I never did..

I cant even really remember, but I know I had one AXP that ran 2.2v+ for over 8 months and never died...
