I just bought a Intel i5-2400 from Microcenter. Yes yes, the K was out of stock and I decided as long as it is better than my q9450 ill be happy. Fail? :)Looking for a motherboard + memory with a $240 budget although I could stretch it out a bit. I am currently looking at this memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231335. Should I really spend a little more to get the Asus P8P67 motherboard? Thanks in advance!
 
P67 chipsets are dual channel, not triple. get either a 2x2GB or 2x4GB kit. as far as motherboards go it's still too early to tell. they all look pretty good at this point.
 
If you aren't going to overclock shouldn't you look into a H67 board instead? This way you have the option of using the on die GPU (and associated features like Quick Sync) if needed. Also I think H67 boards are cheaper slightly then comparable P67 counterparts.
 
Unless your going to Crossfire or SLI then I would go h67.. Saves a considerable amount of money there.

Memory wise I would go with this as well.

Well I will be using my 5850 so the on gpu would be useless? Is the P8P67 a lot better than the H67 or not much except that it can OC? Still leaning towards the P67 as it also has triple pcie(would be great if I ever decide to do muti gpu for folding@home). Thanks again!

Tripple GPU huh.. Well if thats what were talking about here lets go ahead & head for 300 bucks for a motherboard alone. Currently on newegg there are only 2 mobo's that can support better then 4x pcie on a 3rd slot.. So you get 290 bucks for an ecs or 320 for a gigabyte.. Dual GPU your looking at about 160 minimum where your closer to 100 for an h67 board.

if it were me & overclocking was off the table I am afraid I would have to save my money & out it to where it could do more good.
 
How about for non K chips? What I read suggests that you can raise the multiplier by 4 (in addition to turbo boost) on non K chips with P67, but with H67 you are relegated to just turbo boost.

Can someone clear this up for me?

Just a note the on die GPU is capable of hardware video transcoding, and apparently at a much faster rate then current discrete GPU/CPU based methods. Not sure if this is important to you or not though. Albeit this has a limitation at the moment in that only 1 program may support this while running a discrete card.

It also wouldn't hurt to have the back up video option, never know when you might need it.

The p8p67 pro will physically take three graphics cards. However if you want to run the third card at more than x1 you lose eSATA and two of your USB 3 ports and the most you can run the third card at is x4.

The P8P67 deluxe can run the card at x4 without disabling anything onboard, if you want to run it at more than that (which you do for gaming, not sure about folding) you need to look into boards with a NF200 which don't come cheap.
 
Update: I checked microcenter's site again and showed my store had 3 core i5-2500k in stock now, so I went ahead and cancel the other order for the i5-2400. I also decide not to run triple gpu down the road as it will take too much power and that if I do get 3 later on , put the rest in other computers. So it looks like I will be getting the asus p867. :) Thanks for all of your help!

Went to microcenter to pick up the core i5-2500k and when I went home to check status, it was out of stock at the store. Also ordered the Asus P8P67 pro and the Gskill ripjaws 2x2gb ddr3 1333 ram. Thanks everyone for the help again! If anyone of you want to see benchmarks, let me know and I will run it once I complete the upgrade. I think I should be able to use my artic freezer 7 pro(can use on 1366) for lga1155 as I heard the holes are in the same position? :)

same as 1156, not 1366.. so as long as you still have all the hardware that came with your HSF you should be fine after a quick switch.
