Hi all, I was just wondering if there was any way that I could have audio from my PC and PS3 coming out of the same speakers.
Heres a picture of the Samsung t240
I'm not sure if that audio port is in or out. if its audio out: I was thinking,
DVI = PC (audio through DVI?)
HDMI = PS3
and that audio port hooks up to my speakers

If not, I may end up unplugging/replugging stuff around. This'll save on money but increase in annoyance.

Is there some solution that [H] can offer?

Thankyou [H]

I have a T220HD and a T260HD. On these they are an audio in. The optical is out. Could be the same case in your situation.

One nice thing about the PS3 is that you can choose to output sound through the analog output while STILL using HDMI for video. So you could get a Stereo RCA to 1/8" headphone plug converter, and use that plug your PS3's audio output into the line in on your PC. Then just change your audio settings in Windows to "listen" to the audio in. I have it set up this way on my PC and it works great. Let me know if I can clarify anything, it's late.

it took a bit of digging but if you know where to look it's actually easy: (in my case I have an external soundcard, but it's the same deal, except just use the line in on your motherboard or whatever soundcard you have) this is win7 btw

Just a little tidbit: DVI is video only, HDMI carries both audio and video.

another tidbit, DVI and HDMI are the same signal, so DVI does carry the audio in it. I've yet to hear how to access that audio through a DVI connection though.

Maybe because DVI doesn't carry audio?

If you believe so... please provide proof.

if DVI Doesn't carry audio than how am I able output both video AND audio via my Sapphire 4890 Toxic video card? The card has 2 standard DVI Outputs and comes with your typical DVI-HDMI Adapter. Through an HDMI cable I get both audio and sound via DVI Port on the card...

Those aren't your "standard" DVI ports.

If anything they are really HDMI disguise as DVI ports for better compatibility with monitors since the majority are still have only VGA and DVI ports.

I used the word standard to describe the style of the connector. I also ended that with a question mark meaning I was asking a question. No need for the

So it appears as a Standard, DVI is video only but the DVI port itself is capable of supplying audio?

So can many others who have either ATi or nV cards that use the data pins to send audio data to the DVI connector to be converted to HDMI by an adapter, it needs to be specific adapters but it's DVI. How do you think you get 5.1 audio on the HD2/3K and 7.1 on the HD4K ATi cards through their HDMI dongle, they're not connected to anything other than the DVI port.
nVidia does the same with SOME of their cards, using the SPDIF input to combine with video to send out the DVI port on their own method of inserting it in between the video signal, which can require a proprietary connector as well, but can someitmes use generic DVI-HDMI adapters.

May not be the original design of DVI, but it can and does carry audio.

I'll stop hi-jacking someone's thread now.

So does that mean DVI outputs (yes, standard DVI outputs) don't carry audio, but DVI cables can carry audio?
