samsung spinpoint issue

Hi,

Easy one i am sure - bought a samsung hard disk one week ago - recognised inthe bios but not windows (most of the time) - did appear once or twice when got it but could not format it and now anything on the same ide channel does not appear either (the boot disk or the DVD burner depending on which one)

Very puzzeled but presuming it is not the disk

If the drive is PATA, check the jumpers, set the hard drive as master and set the optical to slave if they are not already this way.
