I just attempted to copy a 4.5GB file from my desktop to my raid array via samba. Both file systems support more than 4GB (ntfs on desktop and ext3 on fthe raid). But ti fails, giving an error "The network name is no longer avaliable" Indeed, samba does crash, or soemthign crashes, as my music becomes corrupted after winamp runs out of it's buffer.

What gives? Samba? windows?

anything logged in the windows event log? what about the error log on the server?

Code:
[2006/08/21 14:10:55, 0] lib/util_sock.c:write_data(557)
write_data: write failure in writing to client 192.168.0.253. Error Connection reset by peer
[2006/08/21 14:10:55, 0] lib/util_sock.c:send_smb(765)
Error writing 4 bytes to client. -1. (Connection reset by peer)

That looks to be the log of what happened. Found that in the connection specific log for my machine.

Currently downloading 640MB of updates for packages.
